Facing The Unpredictability Of LifeSample

Facing The Unpredictability Of Life

DAY 5 OF 5

THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF LIFE CAN ONLY BE EXPLAINED IN GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY

A major cause of unpredictability in our lives arises from the fact we only look at life from our angle and want God to help us fulfill our plans. Unfortunately, the sovereign God weighs our hearts. God wants us to align our plans with His, so He can establish them.

We also see that a just and right life is better than a sacrifice to the Lord. We read that there is no wisdom, no insight, and no plan that can succeed against the Lord. Isaiah mentions how God sees the end from the beginning, how His purpose will prevail and He will do what pleases Him.’ This seems to imply that our God is a fatalistic God who does what He pleases. When we read the Bible, we see a loving God who gives us the choice to love Him back or reject him. Love without choice is meaningless.

The sovereignty of God is that God knows my choices and His plan includes them. The unpredictability of life is reduced as we commit our lives to Him and learn to listen to Him and obey Him. We don't know what tomorrow holds for us, but our God knows and we know God.

Part of committing our ways is also doing things we know God wants us to; left to ourselves we wouldn’t do it. When I went back to Jakarta after losing my son, God pushed me to do things I was reluctant to do. I was waiting for things to settle, but God said do it right now and I did. Three years later I can see how one led to another, and I can confidently say God’s plans are the best, just blindly trust Him and follow.

Blind faith is not believing something we want and expecting God to do it. Rather it is having faith that God knows what's best for us and blindly obeying Him. In the former we are not challenged as we are in our comfort zone, but in the latter God takes us out of our comfort zone. To believe God is sovereign in this unpredictable world and He knows what He is doing is the starting point of this blind faith. God is looking for people with this kind of faith. When the Lord weighs our hearts, may He find this faith in us?
