Did God Forget About Me?-Raising Children With Disabilities.

DAY 3 OF 5

Repent

Parenting a child on the autism spectrum can be both a blessing and a challenge. When our child is first diagnosed with autism, the feelings of shock, confusion, and guilt can be overwhelming. These feelings can lead to the belief that we are not good enough or that our parenting skills are lacking.

As parents, it is easy to focus on the negatives of parenting a child on the autism spectrum and forget how much we may have to be thankful for. We may struggle with feelings of guilt and inadequacy due to the diagnosis, which can lead to comparisons between our child and other children.

We must remember that even if our child has been diagnosed with autism, God is in full control and is fully capable of equipping us with the tools and resources we need. As parents, we must take the time to recognize our negative thoughts and repent for them to build a healthier and more positive mindset.

It is important to acknowledge our doubts and fears for our child’s future and take a few moments to write down all of the negative thinking that has ever crossed our minds about raising our child. Writing down these negative thoughts allows us to become more aware of how our thinking can impact how we relate to our child. Once we have recognized our negative thought patterns, we must take the time to ask God to forgive us for the times we have compared our child to others or felt that he or she was not good enough.

We must not forget, however, that parenting a child with autism is not all negative. We can find joy and purpose in our parenting roles through patience, love, and understanding. Let us each take this opportunity to trust in God’s plans for us and our child. Let us take a deep breath, acknowledge our negative thoughts, and repent for them to build a healthier perspective on raising a child with autism.
