Faith Over Fear: Transitioning to CollegeSample
Trust In The Lord
The journey to placing complete trust in someone can be long. From a young age, we usually learn to trust our parents because we can see that they are taking care of us and providing the things that we need: food, clothes, housing. It is easy to decide to trust someone when they are visibly doing things that help us. It is also very common to misplace our trust. We all have a sinful nature, and some people purposely abuse their power to gain “followers” and people to trust them.
Trusting God can be the most challenging task or the easiest task. On one hand, it is hard to trust Him because we cannot physically see Him. God does so much for us every day, but it is easy for this to go unnoticed since He doesn’t physically hand us food or clothing. Nevertheless, He is our number one provider. He created us and has blessed us with all of our abilities. Even though we cannot see God and He is not a tangible being, we choose to believe. That is the definition of faith!
Many people struggle to trust since there is so much evil in the world. In my opinion, however, God does not cause the bad things to happen in life. Rather, He allows the good to be found through sin. He gives us free will so that we are able to choose Him. God brings people together in hard times and creates bonds. He graces us all with unique talents and skills so that we can solve problems as a community.
Once we realize that God is our omnipotent, benevolent creator and that He does not cause the bad but helps us to find the good within it, the choice to follow and trust Him is clear. In times of struggle, we have someone to look to who is beyond this Earth. There is always hope when we trust in God because He will never fail us. No human is perfect. That being said, the people whom we trust have downfalls and may fail to show up or provide for us. No one is to blame for that; it is just our humanity shining through. That’s why I choose God. We must look up to God to be fed spiritually. When we choose to trust Him, our relationships with other people improve. We are no longer putting unrealistic expectations on other humans to provide all that we need because we know that God will provide. Our relationships can have a more relaxed, understanding nature about them.
The journey to trusting God may take a long time for some people, but once you get there, it is pure joy. No, the problems of this world do not disappear for you, nor does life become easier. Rather, you gain a whole new perspective on life. When I put my trust fully in God during college, I began to see Him in day to day activities. I saw Him in other people. I’ve gotten better at not worrying about things that I cannot control. There are times when I succumb to worldly pressures and anxieties, but when I think of the word “trust,” all of those negative feelings start to dissipate. Trusting God is something that I pray every human can gain. Life is renewed and filled with hope, joy, and love. Our Earthly lives should be lived to the fullest and used to worship God, but knowing what God has in store for us makes day to day struggles seem silly. If I had put my trust fully in God before college, I truly believe that my homesickness would not have been nearly as bad. I would’ve missed home from time to time, but I also would’ve realized that God has control. Trusting in God allows us to have perspective and live our lives with less worry and more joy.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.
