All In: Faith Unfazed in a World of Chaos

DAY 5 OF 7

Most parents have experienced the “joy” of watching their young child look them in the eye and do something that they were just told not to do or refuse to do something they were instructed to do. The Bible gives good instructions for dealing with this kind of willful rebellion. It is something that is rooted in all of us and needs to be driven out.

As we live an all-in faith it is vital to remember to not sin willfully. We find this in Hebrews 10:26. I would add another descriptor to this sin: defiantly. The word “willfully” in this verse has more than just the idea of being willful. It also carries with it the idea of defiant sin. It is knowing that God calls something sin and yet choosing to do it regardless.

What does it mean that “…there remaineth no more sacrifice…"? In the Old Testament, if there was a willful, defiant sin, there was no sacrifice under the Mosaic Law for that sin. There was no way for someone to get back into fellowship with God. If it was that bad in the Old Testament, how much worse is it for a Christian to have gone so far away from God that they are not just sinning willfully but flaunting it in the face of God?

When most people read the next verse, they immediately think of hell, but that is not what this means. Once you are saved, you cannot be unsaved. But what awaits the Christian who lives in willful sin is a judgment of losing rewards and the fiery gaze of Jesus. He will look on the things that you have done. If they were made of wood, hay, and stubble, they will burn. If they are gold, silver, or precious stones, they will endure.

Christian, how are you living? Is the fruit of your life going to burn up in an instant or will it shine for all eternity? If you have sin in your life, get with the Lord today and get it dealt with. Do not trample on the precious blood of Christ.
