The story of Nehemiah is a great inspiration for creative people. If you don’t know Nehemiah, he was the servant of Persia’s king. Nehemiah learned that the people left behind in Judah were in trouble and that the walls around Jerusalem had been broken down by her enemies. His heart was stirred into action and he asked to return to Jerusalem so he could help rebuild the walls. He had no way of knowing how this would turn out. How is this inspiring to creative believers like you?

Nehemiah did not quit. Assassins are sent to take his life and Nehemiah is encouraged by his allies to hide inside the temple. His response is amazing. He says, “Should a man like me run away? And what man such as I could go into the temple and live? I will not go in.” Nehemiah is called by God into a life and death situation and stands firm in the face of his enemies. How awesome is that!? To ask a better question, how much like you is that?

Just being a Christian and saying yes to Jesus means you chose a side in an epic battle. By choosing to spread the beauty of God throughout your community you are building your wall. This does not guarantee recognition, perfection, or success. Creating is a risk, an act of faith in a world that is cluttered by garbage the enemy throws at us. You have to decide if that risk is worth taking.
