Who Am I

DAY 4 OF 20

Before Jesus was crucified, He gave His disciples a crash course in truth. John wrote down a lot of those last words in what has become the book of the Bible we know now as… well, John! In John 17, Jesus began to pray for His followers, even those who would come after His twelve disciples. (Spoiler alert: that’s us!) As part of this prayer, Jesus prayed this: “May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:21). May they also be in us. In us. Jesus was praying that we would be as one with Him as He is with His Father and His Spirit. Wow! That’s closeness! We often hear as believers that God wants us to be His friends—that He’s after a relationship with us. And He most definitely is! But as this prayer shows us, God isn’t just after close friendship. He’s after something more than friendship; He’s after union. God wants us to be so close to Him that we are in Him. And because His very Spirit has moved inside of you, that can be possible.

Today, ask God to show you what union looks like. Ask Him to show you what it looks like to walk through your days not just with Him, but in Him. Let that closeness begin to shape the way you see who you are.

About this Plan

Who Am I

How would you define what makes up your identity? Maybe you define who you are by what you do or how you perform. While all of those things may be pieces of who you are, those definitions can change. Let’s take those questions about our identity to God to see what He has to say. As we do, we’ll discover that God wants us to find our identity rooted in the firm foundation of truth—rooted in who He says we are.
