Mini Miracles

DAY 2 OF 3

It’s a Miracle When You Hear His Voice in the Midst of Chaos.

I’m not sure what would have happened had I not arrived at that exact time that I did, but it was a miracle that I was able to hear God amid the craziness.

The winter storm that hit Texas in 2021 was nothin’ pretty. Some of us went days, and well over a week, without electricity and heat. On the first day, I lost electricity and tried to tough it out, although I could see my breath inside my house. However, shortly the next morning, the electricity was fine, so I invited friends over to the house who didn’t have electricity at all. When they arrived we began cooking in the kitchen, watching TV, and talking about how crazy this experience was. Then, in mid-conversation, the power went out. We had to immediately create a plan and decided to go separate ways to visit other people who had electricity.

I was at a woman’s house who was a friend of a friend. It was a blessing that she let us all stay over. Her house was packed with people. We had a great dinner and started to prepare for bed when the power went out at her place. Everyone packed up, and we drove around the corner to another friend’s house that had electricity. It was perfect. Everyone had a room and lots of space. We were already fed, and it was time to go night, night!

As I prepared to crawl into bed, Holy Spirit said, “GO HOME!” It was such a strong, urgent push. “GO HOME!” I heard His voice again. Now, I wish I could say that I was a good Christian and immediately got in the car, but I had to chat with God about this one. “Lord, I’m tired. We have heat, electricity, and a place to sleep. And, Lord, it’s 11 PM!”

I heard Him again, “GO HOME.” Before walking out the door, my friend said, “Where are you going?” I responded, “I’m going home and I don’t know why. I just am. I will be back.” I jumped in my car and headed home, which was about 20 minutes away. When I arrived and opened the door, I immediately smelled smoke. At some point, the electricity had come back on and I noticed we never turned off the stove when we were cooking earlier that day. The pot was burnt to a crisp and the kitchen was full of smoke. I remember yelling, “Thank You, Lord!”

Hearing His voice amid chaos is a miracle in itself. I’m so glad I was obedient even when it didn’t make sense. God’s power is at work within!
