Empty Room: How to Hear From GodSample
DAY THREE - HOLD NOTHING BACK
“So here I am no strings attached,
like David holding nothing back.
I’ll sing a song, I’ll lift my hands to you.
These four walls and these two hearts,
all you wanted from the start…
just me, just you, this empty room.”
-lyrics from EMPTY ROOM by CADE THOMPSON
I have heard it said before that we are what we worship. Meaning what we set our eyes on, we start to become like. If you have found yourself having a hard time hearing God lately, I would encourage you to ask yourself, "What have I been worshiping?"
What if we approached worshiping Jesus without any strings attached; just a desire to give Him the praise and honor He deserves, instead of coming to Him with our own agendas and our own gain?
Think about this for a minute, God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth literally gave his ONE and ONLY son, so that we might be able to step back into relationship with Him, that our sins might be washed away, and that we would have eternal life, being able to live free. If we truly lived our lives in a way that all we desired was to worship Christ and to bring Him honor, glory, and gratitude, then we would be able to hear Him clearer as our ears would be tuned to His voice.
You are not called to be perfect, but instead, to live your life in constant pursuit of the PERFECT GOD, and in exchange, we start to become more like Him as we walk side by side with Him.
God desires to be with you. We were created to be in a relationship with Him, and our entire being craves that. ‘Holding nothing back’ is about giving your all in the pursuit of having a vibrant relationship with JESUS. It is about ridding yourself of the fear of messing up as you pursue Him with all you have.
As a Christian recording artist, I can truly say that some of my favorite moments spent with Jesus were not on stage in front of thousands of people (even though those moments are amazing,) but instead the moments in my room, on my knees, crying out to Jesus with no one else around.
This devotional and my song Empty Room truly is a call to readers and listeners to get back to the secret place where God promises to meet us and to begin to recognize the voice of God again.
As we wrap up this devotional, my challenge for you is to spend 10 minutes a day next week giving thanks to God for what He has done in your life, 10 minutes of prayer, and 10 minutes of worship, and see what happens! Get back to your empty room.
“Dear God, thank You for never giving up on me. Thank You for the cross and the promise of what that means for me; that I can be filled with hope once again. Help me to boldly approach You with confidence and holy awe and wonder of who you are. Help me to get back to the empty room. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
