Sabbath...and the Rest Is Easy!Sample
You WILL have enough!
"'...for today is a Sabbath day dedicated to the LORD...'" (Exodus 16:25, NLT).
Do you take a weekly day of rest? Or are you like many people who are too overwhelmed with work to even feel like it's possible? Maybe you have an incredible business idea that you've been dying to get out on paper. Or perhaps you think you just can't put off that big house cleaning project any longer…
Even the Israelites, shortly after God had freed them from slavery in Egypt, had only one goal: "Get out of this desert fast!" But right there, in the middle of the desert, God said, "Take a break."
"'...They must realize that the Sabbath is the LORD's gift to you. That is why He gives you a two-day supply on the sixth day, so there will be enough for two days. On the Sabbath day you must each stay in your place. Do not go out to pick up food on the seventh day.'" (Exodus 16:29, NLT)
Normally, the Israelites were to gather just enough manna each day for their daily needs: "'...Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.'" (Exodus 16:16, NLT) And it all worked out…when they obeyed the Lord. During the week, some of the Israelites did try to take more for the next day—in other words, do more—but it was no use. The "more" they collected just went bad the next day!
However, God had different directions for the sixth and seventh days. Moses explained that "'...Tomorrow will be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath day set apart for the LORD. So bake or boil as much as you want today, and set aside what is left for tomorrow.'" (Exodus 16:23, NLT)
What? The Israelites must have been perplexed—the prior several days, they'd just seen the manna rot after just one day. Yet, the Bible tells us that this time, "...in the morning the leftover food was wholesome and good, without maggots or odor." (Exodus 16:24, NLT) In His loving care, God made special provision for them, provision so they could rest on the Sabbath!
God wants you to know that you won't gain more by working constantly! He wants you to embrace divine rest as His favor falls upon you.
God's desire is to freely give to you in rest what you thought you could only accomplish through toil and striving.
Our society programs us to work more, to accomplish more in our own strength. But what if God wants to freely give you more, blessing you as you rest in Him? What will YOU choose?
You are a miracle!
