Winning the Food Fight. 5 Unhealthy Patterns for God-Honoring HabitsSample
Not again. Those were the words that surfaced through the fog of my brain when I woke up one morning, several years ago now, and sensed that I needed to make yet another attempt to change my unhealthy eating habits and behaviors.
I had failed so many times before. What was going to be different this time? Oh, how I longed for hope that if I tried again, I could finally find victory!
And then, I knew. I had never invited God to take over and lead the way toward healthier habits. I was good at including Him in my parenting or turning to Him when I felt discouraged in my marriage, but I had never consulted Him about overcoming my food triggers or worshiped Him with the way I ate or drank. God invites us to do everything, including eating and drinking, for His glory!
All the times before were my attempts to succeed in my own efforts. Let’s remember today that our failures do not form our future. They are stepping-stones from our past that God will use to lead us to Himself—even when it comes to food! The pattern of our world will tell us to try the next fad or stop trying altogether. Spiritually-rich healthy habits—like asking God to help us day by day—will ensure that we don’t just win the ultimate food fight but allow us to form a deeper relationship with God.
Prayer suggestion: Lord, I have been trying to get healthy with my own strength. I know that I need You to come alongside me and be my guide. I invite your Holy Spirit to lead the way. I want the things I eat and drink to glorify You and to nourish my body. I often feel helpless, but I know Your Word is true and that You will be a present help in my times of need. I am not my past failures. You love me, and I want to be closer to You as a result of this journey toward wellness. Thank You for fighting this fight with me and for me. In Jesus’ name, amen!
