Prayers and Devotions for SolopreneursSample
Busyness is an idol
What do you feel when you have to wait for a traffic light when there’s no one on the road?
How does it affect you that your business isn’t yet where you want it to be?
Such things can annoy me. I’m not the most patient person, but I’m working on it ;).
Where does this impatience come from?
Our need for fast-paced development or growth for our business.
Our expectation that we should get an email reply the same day we hit send.
We see it everywhere in the world. Everything needs to move fast with results on the radar.
The enjoyment of the journey in between seems lost.
Only a focus on achievement is left, which results in fulfilling the busier lives that we seem to crave. The busier, the better, or else you’re not doing enough.
“Sometimes busyness can be a means of hiding our negligence.” I think this quote from Lecrae hits the nail on the head. I have the tendency to always want to do more, to optimize every available second that I have. Sometimes this habit pulls me away from the important things and activities in life. Am I falling for the trap? Keeping busy for the sake of being busy?
I know where the need to stay busy comes from. It’s an idol.
Many people, especially entrepreneurs, find meaning in it. They think it’s necessary to be busy in order to achieve something; otherwise, you’re not successful. It’s basically a form of worship.
Well, what does God say?
Does He agree, or is this a belief—an idol—from the world that further ignites our impatience?
Blessings,
Jane

Today’s Prayer
Dear Father,
I know there is nothing wrong with working hard for Your Kingdom, and I want to thank You for the place I have in doing so. But the world’s view on busyness is affecting the way I do my work. It’s taking too much control. Father, will You point out the idols in my life and help me to get rid of them so I can focus on what is worthy and good?
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
