Seeing Yourself Through the Eyes of Christ a 6-Day Devotional by Dr. Robyn L. GobinSample
Rely on Christ’s Strength
Renewing our minds is not a one-time choice but a decision we must make repeatedly. There will be moments when we grow tired and weary from constantly battling the enemy's lies. When our thoughts feel stronger than us, we can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to stay on the battlefield.
When we received Christ, we received His supernatural power to do things that exceed human strength and wisdom. In 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT), the Apostle Paul reminds us that God has given us the spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. When we discipline ourselves, we train ourselves to do something in a particular way over and over again. This means we do not have to be imprisoned by Satan’s lies. We hold the key to our freedom: self-discipline. We can train our minds to turn toward truth with three steps: 1) acknowledge the lie, 2) counter the lie with truth and regularly consume truth, and 3) act in line with truth and turn to Jesus. The next time a lie tries to creep in and steal our joy, we can discipline ourselves by A.C.T. ing immediately:
A: Acknowledge the lie for what it is. We do this by labeling it as untruth.
C: Counter the lie with the truth of God’s word and regularly consume the truth. We do this by reading the truth, engraving God’s truth on our hearts through memorization, being thoughtful about the media we consume, and rehearsing the truth through singing hymns and worship songs that are rooted in Scripture.
T: Take action that is aligned with truth and turn to Jesus. We do this by asking Him to help us believe the truth with all our heart, soul, and mind; and trusting that He will answer our prayers.
Verse of the Day: Galatians 2:20
Prayer: God, thank you that in you I can find strength, healing, hope, and freedom. When I grow weary from battling the enemy's lies, help me turn to you for supernatural strength to persevere. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
