Trust That God Is in Control.

DAY 3 OF 6

In God We Trust

By Rev. Ed Fredrich

Our currency declares, “In God We Trust.” But do we? The verse above comes from a section of Jeremiah where the Lord was giving his people a reminder that the choices we make have consequences. Verse 5 states, Cursed is anyone who trusts in mankind, who seeks his strength from human flesh, and verse 8 says, And who turns his heart away from the Lord.

The warning is real. The Lord offers, But blessed is anyone who trusts in the Lord. At times, we wonder why things happen. We question the future. It’s important to remember who the Lord is. He is our Creator. He is our Preserver. He is our Savior!

In fact, the Lord continues in verse 8, He will be like a tree planted by water. It sends out its roots to the stream. It does not fear the heat when it comes. Its leaves will remain green. It is not concerned about a time of drought. It does not stop producing fruit. The words are very similar to those in Psalm 1, but the assurance is truly wonderful.

Don’t take our nation’s motto for granted. If we trust in ourselves, even though our plans may be well intentioned, they will come to naught. Many are just as futile as a politician’s promise. Keep looking to the Lord and declare, “In God We Trust.”

Prayer: Lord, help us listen to your Word. What a fitting reminder. We often think that we are the source of all good things. We think we are in control. There are many who come along with all kinds of promises. Enable us to declare and put into practice, In God We Trust! Amen.
