Day 4: Fasting is More Mental Than Physical

I took a trip to Ukraine in the middle of my forty-day fast; someone blessed us with first-class tickets. It was my first time ever flying first class. It was such a different experience. Since Lana was not fasting, she requested a meal. It looked so delicious that thoughts about stopping the fast while in Ukraine and resuming after the trip flooded my mind.

I knew these thoughts were from the enemy because I was more than halfway through the fast.

I learned something at that moment: fasting is more mental than physical. When you start a fast, the first few days are physically uncomfortable and even painful, but after all the headaches, fatigue, mood swings, etc., it is smooth sailing.

The enemy will play mind tricks on believers when they are fasting to try to make them stop fasting and eat. When in reality, they are not physically hungry. Even though you will experience physical hardship, most of the temptation during fasting is in your mind, not in your stomach.

The secret to finishing your fast is to make up your mind to finish the fast before you even begin. God responds to your thoughts and desires of commitment and determination.

If it is worth starting, it is worth completing.

Let's Pray:

Father, thank You for the desire You put in me to do this fast. Please help my mind conquer any temptations to quit. I pray for Your strength spiritually, mentally, and physically.
