God Makes Known Where Sin Went
by Rev. Kenley Mann
In 1973, a famous doctor named Karl Menninger wrote a book titled Whatever Became of Sin? He wrote:
“The very word ‘sin’ seems to have disappeared. It was once a strong word, an ominous and serious word. The word sin has almost disappeared along with the notion. Why? Doesn’t anyone sin anymore? Doesn’t anyone believe in sin?”
Menninger states that we took the word “sin” and replaced it with “crime” or “symptoms.” Using these words shows no accountability to God.
What does God say about sin? He says through Jeremiah,
“Reform your ways and your actions, and obey the LORD your God. Then the LORD will relent and not bring about the disaster he has pronounced against you.”
We need to see and acknowledge our sin; then, we take God at his word that He has relented.
Prayer: Lord, grant a repentant heart to me. Grant me eyes that see my sin as horror so my eyes may gleam with joy when my ears hear that you have taken away my sin. Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me in reforming my ways and actions. Amen.
