Perspective Through DisappointmentSample

Perspective Through Disappointment

DAY 7 OF 7

Do You see me, Jesus?

"I'm so disappointed—I thought this would turn out a certain way, and now it's totally different." Have you ever said anything like this? Maybe you said something similar even today.

Let me encourage you right from the start: things may look bleak in the short-term, but what if your current circumstances are actually exactly what's best for you in the long-run?

The Bible tells us some stories of some very disappointed people. For example, the disciples were devastated that Jesus, their great hero, the One who had preached words of life and performed countless miracles before their very eyes—even raising the dead!—was now dead Himself. How could this be possible?! They were frustrated, distraught, and utterly disappointed. But while two of them were discussing this very thing, heads down as they trudged along the Road to Emmaus, Jesus had long since ceased to be dead! He was alive—and He came up and walked right alongside them!

"As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus Himself came up and walked along with them" (Luke 24:15, NIV).

Notice this—Jesus was already there! Yet, He chose not to make Himself known to them immediately. Only later did He reveal Himself, saying, "...'How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter His glory?'" (Luke 24:25-26, NIV)

In other words, His response to their frustration and great disappointment was "Why don't you just believe what you've heard? Surely this had to happen so that something even better could come of it!"

I'd like to encourage you in a similar way today: in the midst of your disappointment, God is already there, even if you don't see Him (yet)! Choose to believe what you've heard from God. I also encourage you to ask Him for His perspective about your circumstances…could it be possible that this difficult situation needed to happen so that something even better could come?

You are a miracle!
