The Heart And The Hand Of God
What an amazing thing it is to want the hand of God over our lives, over everything we do and touch. We all want God’s hand on our lives, on our marriage, on our kids, on our jobs, on our church. Yet, how do you experience God’s hand on all of those things? By focusing on the heart of God. His hand always follows His heart. If we go after His heart, we will have His hand on our lives.
When David starts with all the preparations and instructions for building the Temple, we can clearly see that the hand of the Lord was on David. The Bible says that David was a man after God’s own heart. He was after the heart of God, and he found God’s hand and favor on his life.
As believers in Christ, our lives should be about the heart of God. We should want our lives, families, kids, vocations, resources, gifts, and talents to be about the heart of God; this is the way we can trust that God’s hand will be on all of those things. Go after God’s heart and trust His hand to work on your behalf. He will give us what we need according to His will and purpose for our lives.
If we only ask for His hand without first seeking His heart, we will miss both. When David started instructing the people of Israel, he invited all the people to give their time and possessions, to give whatever they could, to build the Lord’s temple. He was after God’s heart, so he wanted people to know that if they, too, went after God’s heart, they would likewise find His hand on their lives.
We are all invited to build something great for the Lord. Amy Carmichael was an Irish missionary in India. She said: “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” When we truly love God, when we are truly after His own heart, we do not take a defensive posture. We realize our hearts and God’s heart are beating on the same beat. Letting God do His work in our hearts is something we want to do, not something we have to do!
We realize we really want our hearts to be a part of building the kingdom of God.
