Mountain Moving FaithSample
How Can We Continue to Grow Our Faith?
As we’ve discussed, moving mountains is not accomplished by mustering up enough faith on our own strength. It is done by trusting God to move the mountains by His power. However, it should be our desire to draw ever closer to Him and to grow deeper in faith. We are responsible for our own growth.
Growing in faith is not about studying for a Bible school degree, though it can help. It is not about strict discipline, though these also have their place in our growth. Rather, growing in faith is growing in relationship.
Our faith is a relationship with our infinite Creator. The outrageous love of God calls us friends with an all-powerful God (John 15:15) and children (John 1:12). As we spend time with Him, learn about Him, talk and walk with Him, and follow His teaching, we will grow in intimacy and maturity of faith. For if we are God’s friends and children, will we not align with His will? And won't God, as the best of friends and fathers, delight to move the mountains that rise up against us?
We have a loving and relational Father who is experienced at leading people in His ways. He also is an experiential God who loves to lead us to places of trust, those that take more of Him to accomplish. It’s His way. Is there anything too hard for Him? No. Our Lord flattens mountains. He forgives sins. He makes a way where there is no way.
So, stick close to God, trust in Him and don’t rely on your own thinking. Rely on His strength and prepare for the obstacles. The Lord will fight for you and sometimes our biggest “move” is waiting for Him to act. It’s undeniable that God has a plan, and He includes those who are willing to follow Him. You will be amazed just like the disciples at the top of the Mountain of Transformation by the glory revealed to you. And when you get a glimpse of God, you will want to stay close by.
Colossians 2:7 captures this growth process so beautifully: “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
