Keys of Sincere Rejoicing

DAY 3 OF 7

The Heart

We are talking about sincere rejoicing. When we say sincere, we are emphasizing that it should not be something that only covers appearances, that outwardly appears to be joy. Sincere rejoicing should not be something we are striving to create with our personality or circumstances.

The Bible tells us to praise the Lord with all our hearts, to speak of the wonders the Lord has done, and to sing to Him.

The heart is not only a muscle of our body; it represents our soul, our emotions, and our feelings. Music and singing are a way we express ourselves; melodies touch our emotions, and through them, we can show what is going on inside of us. So, music and the heart are closely related to human beings. This is why David wrote so many psalms. The song was the best way to express to the Lord what he felt, his victories, his fears, and his defeats. It was another way to meet God and be free in His presence.

We do not need to be great musicians or to lead the church band to sing to the Lord. Music is important in all cultures, from tribal societies to great civilizations. God created us with the capacity to make and enjoy music. It is not something that human beings could do without God’s design. We, too, can present our songs to the Lord in the same way that David did: the singing of our victories, our fears, our circumstances, and our longings. Let the music be a link that brings us into God’s presence. Praise the Lord with a sincere heart so that you may find joy in His company. He promises joy to those who seek Him with all their heart.

Lord, today I come before You with all I have and all that I am, with my joys and defeats. I’m choosing to praise You all the time, to sing to You with all my heart, so that I may know the joy that Your life brings to me.
