Why, God?Sample
Where Is My Identity Found?
At times, we all wrestle. We ask, “Why, God?” Perhaps recently, you’ve been battling doubts about God’s goodness and His protection. I know there have been tough seasons in my life where I’ve faced personal challenges, seen the darkness in the world, and asked, “Why, God?”
Over 2,700 years ago, the prophet Habakkuk had a transparent, honest conversation with God amid a culture that was becoming dark, unjust, and even violent. Habakkuk was trying to reconcile what he knew about God in his heart with what he saw happening in the world with his eyes. Friends, the answers God gave Habakkuk then are deeply relevant for us today.
So, what do we do when hope grows dim? We live faith-filled! Habakkuk 2:4 says:
"Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.”
This is the central verse in the entire book of Habakkuk! God speaks clearly here—staying in faith is key to managing through tough times.
I love what the Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:7: "For we live by faith, not by sight." In other words, we live by what God says, not by what we see or feel. You see, one of the enemy’s greatest goals is getting us to place our trust in our emotions and feelings. Many times in my life, I’ve needed to confront the enemy’s lies and declare, “I am not what I feel; I am what God’s Word says!” I encourage you to do the same!
As you engage with God’s Word, ask:
● What is God saying to me?
● What does it mean to me?
● How can I apply what God is teaching me?
● How can I be specific in prayer today?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
