Possess the Promised LandSample
God’s Promises to Us
I was recently reminded of a promise God gave me long ago. I was visiting with a former board member from my church in Chicago, and he reminded me of a prophecy that I had received in the middle of one of my last church services before I left to serve at Northwest University.
A church member had prophesied in the middle of a service that one day I would impact tens of thousands of young people for the kingdom of God. At the time, I had no idea what it meant. At that point, our church was in a turnaround process. We couldn’t secure the kind of building I knew we needed to grow — and I was already beginning to sense that my time was coming to an end at that church.
I left that church, went to Northwest University, and completely forgot about the promise that God made me.
As I watched almost a thousand young people and their families burst into spontaneous praise during one of our recent commencement ceremonies at Southeastern University, I felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit that this was just the beginning of realizing the promise He gave me all of those years ago.
As followers of Christ, God desires us to experience the life He has for us — one full of promises and purpose.
The Promised Land can be many different things. It is as individual as the person seeking it. For some, it is health; for another, it is security. Many desire a relationship to be restored and peace within their family. Some pursue a dream they believe God has promised them.
And just like the children of Israel, God has given us the command to go in and possess these promises. He is calling us to lay hold of the promises He has given to each of us individually.
Even today, God hasn’t changed. His purpose is the same. You are His child! And He desires for you to possess the promises of His word.
Hold fast to the promise God has given you!
Reflect:
What is your Promised Land?
