DAY 4 OF 7

LET’S TALK

Like any other parent, my worst fear is that my children would stop talking to me. I love to know what is going on in their lives. And it gets even better when they ask me for guidance and advice. It is my heart’s desire that they will always feel comfortable sharing anything with me. Our heavenly Father feels the same.

In David’s poem about his home with the Lord, he tells us about his Father’s invitation to talk to Him about anything. “...My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming’” (Psalms 27:8, NLT). What more could we ask for in a home?

When we think about the Lord’s invitation, it is no surprise that we often read about Jesus making time to talk with His Father. “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray” (Mark 1:35, NLT). “One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night” (Luke 6:12, NLT). The whole night! This was the day before He chose the twelve disciples. I can just imagine Jesus and His Father talking (and probably joking a bit) about how the bunch will get along and work together.

The Lord longs for us to have the same kind of relationship with Him. He even illustrates His desire by bringing food into the equation. “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (Revelation 3:20, NLT).

How do you feel about your prayer life at the moment? How would it change if prayer becomes a visit to your Father’s home to talk?

Let us accept our Father’s invitation to talk with Him over a meal. He provides three of them for us each day! And let us find our heavenly home in Christ as our friendship with Him grows deeper. He is already talking and waiting for us to respond in the same way. “I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are My friends, since I have told you everything the Father told Me” (John 15:15, NLT).

About this Plan

Home

There is no place like home. Many songs and movies have been inspired by a longing to go home. Even the great King David just wanted to be home in the Father’s house (Psalm 27:4). But why? What would make life better there? In this plan, we will explore how to live in our Father's house each day while we are still on earth.
