DAY 3 OF 5

Sin is sin

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever had to do?

For Ehud in Judges 3, the answer would have been obvious.

Ehud brought tribute to King Eglon, which stopped the king from another killing spree of Jews. But later that day—like an Old Testament James Bond—he returned with a sword hidden on his right leg. The soldiers guarding King Eglon only checked Ehud’s left leg for weapons because soldiers back then were right-handed.

“Ehud reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king’s belly. Even the handle sank in after the blade, and his bowels discharged. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it” (Judges 3:21,22). And right there is why you might not know this story; it’s not told in Sunday school.

I’m not advocating you hide a sword on the right side of your body. But God’s Word is a double-edged sword. It cuts away sin. Sin needs to be removed . . . from our lives and from others’ lives. Think of that friend struggling in life, in sin. What message does that person need to hear?

Love that person enough to tell them that sin is sin. Love them enough to help them cut that sin from their life. When they repent, let them know they are forgiven.

One of the best ways to lead your friend into repentance is to model it. What do you need to repent of? When you do, peace will follow!
