Wild Prayers

DAY 14 OF 14

THE SUPER EMPOWERING AUTHORITY OF YOUR PRAYER

As we read through the gospels, there is only one thing that the disciples asked Jesus to teach them – ‘How to pray?’ They understood the underlying principle of Jesus’ ministry – the hours spent in prayer enabled Jesus to perform miracles in the blink of an eye. What Jesus did in private was the driving force of what He did in public. Let’s explore the different dimensions of the power of prayer:

  • Power over distance: Prayer has the power to transcend borders and work miracles. John 4 gives us an example. When a royal official came to Cana to ask Jesus to heal his dying son in Capernaum (about 20 miles away), Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” No matter where the object of your problem is, prayer has the power to work miracles beyond borders. It may be a wayward child who lives abroad, a difficult boss in another country, or resources that have to be released from another land. Your prayer can work wonders in those situations, which are seemingly far away.
  • Power over time: Be it the woman suffering from the issue of blood for 12 years, or the woman who had been crippled for 18 years, or the man who had been disabled for 38 years, one word from Jesus was able to restore them in a minute. Your problems may have plagued you for years on end. Be encouraged. Your prayer has the power to go beyond the many years spent in bondage and bring restoration in your life.
  • Power over nature: Matthew 14:24-29 NIV speaks about a very interesting incident: “And the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.” The reason why Jesus was able to walk on water is written in the previous verse: “After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” The power of Jesus’ private prayer life was manifested in the midst of the storm.

Humanly speaking, each of these problems that Jesus faced in His ministry seemed impossible. But to Jesus, the solution was obvious. What was impossible by human ability was possible by the power of His prayer. Be encouraged today! What seems impossible to you is possible through your prayer!

Reflection time:

1. List down the impossible situations of your life.

2. Write out a faith statement that proclaims the magnitude of God’s power over each of those impossible situations that you have listed.

3. What are the ways that you would like to sow into building a solid prayer life?

Have a little chat about all that you have written down with God.

Day 13

About this Plan

Wild Prayers

Often, we are tempted to only take prayer requests to God that have a precedence in history of being answered. But God waits to propel our situations into ground-breaking, history-making miracles, if only we have the faith to ask for that which is infinitely above and beyond human reach. Struggling to make some wild prayers? If that’s the case, this 14-day journey is for you.
