The Spirit & His Peace - “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”
Today Jesus is offering you peace. However, it’s not the kind of peace you’ve heard of before. This is a peace that won’t be taken away, nor one that is hollow in its promise. It is not fragile in the hard time and with it you do not have to be afraid. What is this peace? It is the peace of having the Holy Spirit with you. The Holy Spirit, the very Spirit of God, is given to those who love Him as a source of peace, reminding us the promises and truths that Jesus has given.
In the second half of this portion, Jesus is talking about how He is going away for some time and alludes to his crucifixion. Even though He knows the pain and suffering that is about to come, He encourages His disciples to be glad, focuses on the love the world will soon learn of, and speaks of being obedient to the Father’s command. Imagine being that focused and peaceful in such a situation!
Knowing you’re about to die! Impossible! Unless, like Him, you had the supernatural peace that comes with the Spirit’s help. This is the peace He offers to you today.
Prayer -
• Lord, grant me your peace that is unlike any other
• When I am tempted to be anxious, help me remember the promise of your peace
Thanksgiving -
• Thank you that you give me the ability to overcome anything before me, namely fear and worry, by your Spirit of peace
