What's the Point? (A Study in Ecclesiastes: Part 3)

DAY 11 OF 12

A LIFETIME TO PREPARE

The fourth intention of Q’s observations is to highlight the importance of preparation. While we live our one, crazy life ‘under the sun,’ we need to be aware that “God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.”(Ecc 12:14).

There are so many hard and horrible things going on in our world today, many without apparent consequence. We get frustrated, don’t understand, and sometimes want to take matters into our own hands to fight or attempt to redeem. But that isn’t our job, and it will never work.

But God. God has established His throne for justice. In the end, God himself will put all things right.

However, the thing about justice is that it doesn’t just apply to the ‘other guy.’ We all need to be intentional about preparing to meet him. Thankfully, Jesus has made way for us to be redeemed, and if we spend our time ‘under the sun’ fearing God and keeping His commandments, we will receive eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Ask Yourself: How ready are you to encounter God’s righteous judgment? Is there anything in your heart and mind that needs some preparation?

Pause to Pray: Merciful Father, I thank you for scriptures that tell us the truth and help us live in a way that honors you. Forgive me for _______________. Please continue to guide me in the way I should go...

Take the Next Step: Part of the preparation for living ready involves lightening our load. Schedule time with a trusted faith partner (pastor, spouse, small group leader, friend…) and confess any thoughts or behaviors holding you back. Seek God’s forgiveness and receive it!

About this Plan

What's the Point? (A Study in Ecclesiastes: Part 3)

God created us to find meaning in our lives. But we live in a broken world where we’re continually frustrated in our search. So, what’s the point of living life? This is the question the Teacher in Ecclesiastes is asking. At first, the message of this wisdom book seems to lead to despair, but in fact points to the hope of life found in God alone.
