Mastering Your Body

DAY 3 OF 4

Exercise and Turn to God

1 Timothy 4:8 (NKJV) says, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

1 Timothy 4:8 acknowledges that exercise is beneficial. We can harness the little benefit of bodily exercise, especially when combined with a healthy eating habit. A good steward makes the best use of the little available.

Here are two ways we can exercise with God in Mind

Praise Dance: David was a warrior and a man of praise. 2 Samuel 6:14 (KJV) says, “And David danced before the LORD with all his might, and David was girded with a linen ephod.” He danced with all his might.” What might happen if we dance with all our might before the Lord daily, we might lose weight and look somewhat like David, the warrior.

Prayer Walks: We can walk while praying around the house or park. Kneeling while praying is a great posture, but it is not required.

Turn to God

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 (KJV)

Is it possible that we turn to food sometimes to fill a void in our lives and deal with situations only God can resolve? This may be the case. When we feel stressed or overwhelmed, and our hormones become dysregulated, we may feel the urge to turn to food instead of God. Matthew 4:4 reminds us that food alone cannot give us life or satisfy the hunger we feel. God’s Word is the food for our spirit and soul, and we can find supernatural hormonal regulation in God.

Turning to God’s Word instead of turning to food is a strategy for mastering the body and overcoming gluttony.
