Frames - Your Perspective Is Everything!

DAY 5 OF 5

Temporary Frames Vs. Eternal Frames

Most frames will last on average from one to three years. They are temporary. The prescription for the lenses is only valid for one to two years. Once it expires, people must get a new one to get new frames. This is necessary as the optometrist needs to examine your eyes to check for vision changes. The frames you are wearing today are temporary for this season of your life. Prescriptions will change, perspectives will change, and preferences will change. Expiration is inevitable.

There are so many things in life that we give our full attention to as if they were going to last forever. The Bible helps us reframe this in 2 Corinthians 4:18, "So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever." I had to learn this lesson the hard way with my first car. I saved up and worked hard to get this car when I was seventeen. I paid cash, but it was already nine years old when I purchased it. It was in decent condition as it only had one owner, but there were a lot of things I wanted to upgrade on it. So, the next few years, I put all my extra money into transforming my Chevy Cavalier into a wannabe sports car-low rider. I painted it, got rims, and wide tires, lowered it, tinted the windows, installed a big sound system, and to top it off, I got purple neon lights underneath. I went all out. I put way more money into the car than it was worth.

Adding these bells and whistles while living in the city made my car a target. It was broken into a few times and my sound system was stolen. I quickly replaced it and put in an alarm system. But within months my entire car was stolen. It was damaged, but I fixed it up again just to get it broken into another time. I finally realized I had been putting so much money and attention into something so temporary. I flipped my frames and started focusing on things that will last forever. When you put on eternal frames you become focused to maximize every moment and every move.

Reframing Questions for today:

What is an example of how you looked at a situation with temporary frames?

How can you become more focused to maximize every moment with your family and friends?
