Opinions Won’t Stop Your Supply!
There is only one opinion that God expects us to govern our lives by, and that is His opinion of who we are: His will, His plan, and His purpose for our lives.
It’s between you and Jesus. It’s between me and Jesus. Are we going to be obedient to Him? Are we going to be convicted by what He says about us in His Word? Are we going to be moved to act according to what He thinks we should do to be a benefit to someone else?
How we need to keep our spiritual ears tuned every day of our lives to hear Jesus’ opinion of who we are and who we are not!
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t listen to those who are in authority over us or those with whom we are in close relationship. We absolutely should respect and honor those who hold those positions in our lives, because they often share their perspective from a genuine desire to see us walk in God’s very best.
Nevertheless, there are times in this fallen world when people can develop opinions about us that are not Jesus’ opinion of us. And if we are not well-grounded in knowing who we are in Him, others’ erroneous opinions can dictate who we think we are.
We may even be affected by an opinion of someone who is already deceased. This reminds me of one example in my own life, something my dad used to say to me when I was younger. I’d walk across the room, and he’d tell me, “Denise, you’re walking like a cow.” I can say from personal experience that a comment like that doesn’t give one a lot of confidence!
In the years since then, I had to establish God’s opinion above my dad’s opinion in my heart about the way I walk. Dad has now been in Heaven for many years. But nevertheless, I’m responsible for which opinions I’m allowing to influence what I believe about myself as I live out my life for God on this earth.
