The Joy of Being Mom Devotional

DAY 3 OF 7

Bye Bye Discouragement

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. –Philippians 4:19 NLT

One thing I noticed early on as a mom was the discouragement that many parents feel. My husband, Mike, and I talked about this and asked ourselves two questions:

1.Why do so many parents find themselves discouraged?

2.Why do so many Christian parents find themselves discouraged?

We realized the answer to both questions is the same. Many of us don’t read the Bible, or we only read it when we desperately need it. Consequently, we don’t know that God has given us so much wisdom and encouragement in His Word.

Discouragement is defeated when we surrender control to the Lord. He is available 24 hours a day to help us. His desire is that we joyfully come to Him with all our concerns regarding our children, our marriages, and our lives. Because there’s so much information readily available to us, it’s important that whatever we read, see, or hear is received in light of what God has to say. Be cautious that you do not allow human opinions to have more authority in your life than God’s Word. The authority of the Bible is the ultimate test for determining truth.

Your children will bring you tremendous joy. They will help you learn to hear God’s voice as you seek Him for counsel and direction. They will help grow your faith as you pray, asking for wisdom and strength. When you see their faces and your heart swells with love for them, it will serve as a reminder of how much God loves them and you! That alone will fill you with courage as you parent your children.

Let’s Pray

Father, I’m thankful that discouragement doesn’t have to be part of my life. I may get tired and feel overwhelmed at times, but I know that You are the Lord of my life. In the midst of busyness, I just need to remember to turn to You. I’m so glad that You are always there for me and my family. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
