Praying Over Your HomeSample
Your Kid’s Bedroom(s)/Guest Room
As our kids were growing up in our home, one of my favorite things to do was to go into their rooms at night while they slept and pray over them. I prayed that they would know Jesus and be everything that God created them to be. I prayed for protection over them.
In their rooms, we read them books and then later had them read to us. We got on the floor to play with them. I loved playing with my son and his Star Wars figures. I even loved playing with my daughter and her Strawberry Shortcake doll house and figures.
A child experiences and reflects on so much of life in their rooms, and I always wanted them to be safe places. My room growing up was awesome. It was my world. There was make believe, my first train set, and my record collection. It was where I began lifting weights, trying to make muscles appear somewhere on my body. It was where I talked on the phone to friends and the girl who was my current crush.
It was where I learned to pray and where God became very real to me. It was a place where I felt safe and where there was no fear. The closer I got to God, the farther away were my fears.Today, pray those same things over your children’s rooms. Pray that they would go to bed without fear (Proverbs 3:24) and that they would follow the truth (3 John 4).
If you do not have children, think of the children you know in your community. We all have an impact on the next generation, whether through extended family, church, work, or our larger community. Think of children in your life to pray for by name, parents you know who are raising kids, or pray for children in your community.
Use this guide today as you pray over your kid’s room(s) or guest room and invite His presence into these spaces.
- That God would equip you and your spouse to be great parents and point your children to Jesus.
- That God would direct you and your spouse in ways you can share His love with the children you have influence over and the parents you know who are raising kids.
- That God would give you the strength and discernment to parent together as a team.
- That your parenting would draw you closer to God and closer to each other.
- That your children would accept Christ and walk obediently with God.
- For restful, peaceful sleep for your children.
- That your children would develop self control.
- That your children would learn to deal with their emotions in a healthy way.
- That you and your spouse would have a good relationship with your children all the days of their life.
- For protection against family drama and tension.
- That every family member would do the hard work of working through conflict together with grace and love.
- Ask God to help you see and steward your influence over the children in your life.
