Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your ChildrenSample
Scripture: Read Psalm 136 for the full context of this passage.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1
The phrase “steadfast love” is woven into all of Scripture; it’s mentioned at least 250 times in the Old Testament. This beautiful phrase in Hebrew is “hesed,” and it means unwavering love. It is a faithful love that doesn’t change with disbelief, unfaithfulness, or sinfulness.
It reminds me of the parable of the prodigal son. The dad "filled with compassion for him, he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him." (Luke 15: 20) Even after the son squandered his inheritance, the father showed him grace. What a beautiful picture of "hesed" steadfast love!
When your children are quick to doubt God’s love, remind them of God’s steadfast love. His love is unwavering and never changing.
Pray: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your unwavering and never-changing love. May {your child's name} come to know not only in his/her head but also in his/her heart about your steadfast love that endures forever. Amen
Connect: Let your children know in a note or text that you will always be there for them. Remind them God’s love never changes, even if they disobey.
