Liar, Liar Cant's on Fire: Lies Told by the EnemySample
Lie #3: “You can’t fight through fear”
I spent many of my early adult years paralyzed by fear as I began a marriage, a career, and the journey of owning my “big boy” responsibilities in the real world. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, and fear of an unknown future are just a few of the dark clouds that loomed over me. Becoming a Christian was not a remedy overnight by default. Although less frequent and less severe, my fears still remind me of their ability to distract and discourage me if I allow it.
Our enemy, the devil, is in the business of hypotheticals and “what ifs” in life. He likes to present the worst-case scenario as we begin a project, engage in a relationship, or embark on a new professional venture. “What if the project fails?”, “what if they don’t like me?”, “what if I can’t do the job?” are questions he prompts us to ask ourselves.
We are meant for more than the emotional disabling and dismemberment that fear facilitates. God equips us to penetrate those walls of fear that seem to close in on us in a suffocating manner. He promises a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). He assures us a peace that HE gives, not a peace the world gives (John 14:27). We can fight through fear. Yes, it is a daily fight because our enemy takes no days off. We can fear no evil as we walk through valleys because God is with us.
I believe our breakthrough comes when we loosen our grip on results and expectations. Sure, we want good results and expect to do well, but our freedom comes when we stop defining our worth by the destination or outcome. There is power in trusting our efforts along the process and trusting God’s provision and favor in all endeavors. Invite God into every situation that might present fear or insecurity and allow Him to fight our battles.
