The Benefits of a Thankful HeartNäide

As we enter into praise from thanksgiving, we find that a thankful heart shifts our perspective. Giving thanks helps us take our eyes off of ourselves and our circumstances. When we give thanks to God we begin to see more clearly who He is and what He is doing.
King David is a great example of what this looks like. In Psalm 69, we witness David pouring out his heart and crying out to God to save him. Suddenly, in verse 30, his focus turns away from his circumstance as he begins to exalt God. His circumstances hadn’t changed so what happened? David stepped into thanksgiving which led him into praise and ultimately into seeing the Lord rightly. We see many other times throughout the Psalms where David’s perspective is shifted through thanksgiving (Psalm 13; Psalm 16). David knew what it meant to offer a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving unto the Lord. He knew the secret of drawing near to the Lord and seeing Him. He knew the path to the heart of the Lord. The journey to seeing the Lord and His deliverance begins with thanksgiving! (Psalm 50:14, 23)
Thanksgiving gets our eyes off of us and back where they belong, on Jesus. Giving thanks softens our hearts and allows us to see the Lord clearly, for we know it is the pure in heart who see God.
If you desire to see God for who He truly is, turn to Him with gratitude in your heart today! Whatever your life looks like, allow your heart to open up in thanks towards the Lord. Watch as your perspective changes and you begin to see Him in all of His goodness!
