There are few things more exciting than busting out a cannonball at a hotel pool. Why? Because it's not allowed, silly! But just like that, water is splashing over the sides, and small children are choking while gasping for air. That's when you look up, and the security guard comes in to remind you of the rules. Have you ever noticed what's on the wall next to the rules? The life ring! Though it looks like a big doughnut, the life ring is designed to help save a life if someone begins to drown. It will help to keep them afloat. It gives them something to hold onto.
In today's verse, Isaiah, a prophet from the Old Testament, refers to God as "his salvation." Isaiah knew God was a true source of refuge. He also calls God "his strength." When there is no one else to turn to in our darkest hour, God is there. In many ways, God is like that life ring, holding us up and keeps us from going under.
What does it mean to you to know God is always there waiting to help you?

About this Plan
If you're a hiker, you know a trail-breaker is someone who walks ahead, makes a new way, and invites others to follow. That's exactly what Jesus did for us. He broke a new trail with his birth, his life, his teachings, and then with his death and resurrection. In this 30-day devotional series designed for Lent, we’ll see how Jesus showed us a new way of living and knowing God.
