The Man God Sent

DAY 6 OF 7

Abide in Christ

John was older than Jesus. He was His cousin. But Jesus existed before him. He was in the past; He is in the present; and He is in the future. Jesus is everywhere; He is omniscient and omnipresent. That’s a good reason to pray. Ask God what He holds for your future. Pray for your kids. Pray for tomorrow. Our prayers are like incense before the throne of God. God answers our prayers; He even sends His angels, who are fiery servants to do His will (Hebrews 1:7). Pray before you get into a bad situation because God is in the future.

Some people say that because we’re not living under the law anymore, but by grace, we can do whatever we like. Those are normally people who are not living a Spirit-led life. They are living to please their bodily appetites rather than God. They just keep falling into sin, living a carnal life.

Now, grace is very important. I live in grace. We must live in grace. If you have the Holy Spirit in you, you live to please Jesus Christ and to obey His Word. That’s how that works. It’s not like I’m sitting here reciting the Ten Commandments to myself: Thou shalt not murder; thou shalt not covet; thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not lie. I obey the commandments out of a desire to please God. And when I make mistakes, because no one is perfect, I ask God to forgive me. If you say you have the Holy Ghost in your life, but you keep falling into sin after sin, are you saved? Or are you just playing at church? You might need to take an inventory of your life.

Having a relationship with Jesus is not a salad bar. You don’t just pick what you want. You can’t say, “I like that Jesus died on the cross for my sins; that’s cool. But I want to sleep with my girlfriend, so I don’t really like that whole part about thou shalt not commit adultery.”

As long as you abide in Christ, you’re all good. But if you said a prayer and aren’t living a Spirit-led life—that just doesn’t add up. You’ve got to do your own inventory. Jesus said you’re either for me or against me. It’s that simple.

About this Plan

The Man God Sent

John the Baptist was the man that God sent to prepare the way for the Messiah. The Gospel of John, written by the Apostle John, introduces us to John the Baptist’s ministry and to Jesus, God’s Son, sent to save people from their sins. This plan, based on John 1, shows God’s desire for our lives and spiritual walk with Him.
