Why Should I Dedicate My Kids? Sample
Am I Cut Out for This Whole Parenting Thing?
Today, we’re laying the foundation for child dedication, and it starts with the realization that our kids are gifts from God. Yes, even on the days when your kids are refusing to sleep, eat vegetables, or clean up those small torture devices also known as legos! Even then, they are still wonderful gifts from God. Before they were even born, God knew them. In fact, He knit every fiber of their being together in a way that is unique to them. And just as He uniquely creates each and every child, He loves each one uniquely and individually.
Children are meant to be a source of joy and excitement for every parent. And the truth is, you were not chosen to be a parent by accident. God intentionally designated you to cultivate His magnificent creation! That being said, as much as you love your children, God, their heavenly Father, loves them even more. This mind-blowing reality indicates just how much He has entrusted to you! Would God give such a special gift to someone He did not trust to nurture and care for it well? James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father, who does not change. You were chosen intentionally.
So why child dedication? Because God has wonderful plans for your kids, and you are an integral part of His plan. Dedicating our kids is, in part, publicly acknowledging that just as these kids are blessings from God to us, we are also meant to be blessings from God to them. Take comfort in knowing that the gift God has given you was not handed over by accident. You were intentionally chosen to partner with God in raising your children. You will never walk alone on your parenting journey, because God, the heavenly Father who does not change, will walk alongside you every step of the way!
Prayer:
God, thank You for my children. Thank You for choosing me to be their parent. Thank You for every single unique detail of their being that you created. Thank You that they are known and loved by You. Thank You that I am known and loved by you. Give me the strength to be the best parent I can be today. Help me to be a constant reminder of Your love to my children all the days of their lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
