More Beauty Less Mess

DAY 10 OF 10

My mom is a gift-giver, so I wasn’t surprised when she handed me the carefully wrapped package. As I pulled back the paper, I saw a small velvet jewelry box. I opened it to find a delicate silver necklace holding an intricate diamond crown.

“This will remind you that you are always a daughter of the King,” she said.

Out of all the gifts I’ve received from her, this one is my favorite. It’s a beautiful reminder of who I am to God; a special possession – a symbol of something greater.

My mom has been a key player in my relationship with God since I was a young girl. She rarely misses an opportunity to share her faith and is always pointing me to Scripture when I need encouragement or direction. She’s not just my mom; she’s my sister in Christ.

That’s the beauty of our sisterhood. Each of us holds a key role in one another’s faith. Sometimes she is encouraging me, and sometimes I’m lifting her up in prayer. This is what we are called to do - to spur one another on towards love and good deeds – encouraging one another and challenging each other to rise to our Kingdom purpose. We aren’t meant to compare ourselves to one another, but instead we’re meant to seek out the beauty each of us possesses. The beauty of Christ within.

The Bible tells us, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10, NIV). What an incredible truth! This means God designed each of us with such precision and care – putting unique giftings within each of us – to fulfill each purpose He planned for our lives. In this way, we are all the same and yet still so very different.

When we accept one another and celebrate our differences, we bring our unique gifts and talents together as one and we reveal the beauty of the One, Jesus. From this day forward, let’s invite others to use their strengths where we are weak. Let’s discover the joy of growing God’s Kingdom together. Just like my sweet mama reminded me, let’s use our gifts to remind one another who we really are.

We are a special possession to the Father, and we are a symbol of something greater. We are daughters of the King.

How can you use your unique gifts and talents to encourage one another? What can you do to celebrate your differences and grow together?

About this Plan

More Beauty Less Mess

The mother-daughter relationship can be one of the most precious and beautiful connections women experience. At times, it can also be confusing and a bit messy. As we grow closer to Christ, He will help us create more beauty than mess. Edited by Karen Greer.
