The Blessed Empty Nest Sample
Day 1
Know Whose You are & Who You are
For many years, your purpose probably involved raising children and helping launch them out of your nest and into one of their own. You packed countless lunches, drove thousands of carpool miles, did endless loads of laundry, and prepared your children for adulthood. What now?
The first stages of empty nesting can be hard — a bit too quiet and often a bit depressing. It’s both normal and natural to grieve as you miss the routine of caring for your children. Those days were busy, and many depended on you.
Now is a great time to remember “whose” you are. You are a son or a daughter of the Most High King. You are one of His. He made you and He’s proud of you. God created you with special talents and gifts. You have much to offer, right here and now. Today is a great day to remember that God has a great purpose for you and plans to unveil within you. He’s ready to walk closely with you during these years. The nest may feel empty, but life — with Him — is full!
Genesis 1:27: “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (NIV)
Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV)
Jeremiah 29:11: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” (NIV)
