DAY 35 OF 63

Kindness is Underrated

Kindness is one of the most underrated traits of God’s character, yet it is the very thing that attracts us to Him. It stems from the Greek word Kalosýni, which can be translated to “goodness or charitable”. Simply put, kindness means doing something that reflects goodness. It is a physical action and not just a thought or emotion. The Bible reminds us not just to love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth (1 John 3:18).

God’s kindness is what makes Him relatable to our humanity; it is the very thing that draws us close to Him. It is what makes us feel warm, accepted, and welcomed (Romans 2:4). Even today, we experience God’s kindness anew through every answered prayer! The highest level of kindness He showed was when He promised to never give up on us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He demonstrated this through an act of love by sending His only Son to the cross and to take the penalty of our Sin – this is the ultimate expression of God’s goodness, love, and mercy.

Kindness is so powerful that it can change hearts. It has the ability to change the atmosphere in your home, your workplace, and in your community (Proverbs 15:1). Kindness changes everything! So how can we manifest it more in our lives? It is as simple as asking God to help you take an intentional step out of your comfort zone and into the sphere of kindness. This is the guarantee and comfort we have; the Holy Spirit is our Helper! And it is He who works in us to produce this beautiful fruit of the Spirit.

Being kind is one thing, but to keep being kind in the face of opposition and persecution is another. We can only achieve this by being willing to abide in God’s Spirit of love. This means to spend time loving Jesus and being loved by Him. We must constantly remember His wonderful acts of kindness towards us. The more time we spend with Jesus, the more we become like Him in spirit, in truth, and in character. The more we develop in this fruit of the spirit, the greater things we will achieve... I believe one day we will grow enough to show godlike kindness to our enemies and pray for them just as Jesus did.

About this Plan

Fruit Bowl

Fruit Bowl is a 9-week deep dive into the Fruit of the Spirit put together by the Naujavan community. Jesus said, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit is the result of spending quality time with God, allowing Him to shape and form us.” We hope this devotional encourages you to do just that.
