Break Free From InsecuritySample
"Believing Truth for Myself"
What if you know God’s Word but have trouble believing it for yourself? You can know how to get free and still be in bondage. It takes more than knowledge to be free. It takes action.
"Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage”—Dale Carnegie. Action is what will get you from dreaming of freedom to walking in freedom.
Let’s say you found some scriptures to help you fight your lies. Do you believe those scriptures are true for you? God’s truths are transforming only to the extent they are believed, received and absorbed. Just as a healthy meal cannot bring nourishment unless it is eaten and digested, God’s Word must be eaten and digested to make it a living part of us.
When I was struggling to get free I would read certain scriptures and think, “Well, this may be true for other people, but it is not true for me. I’m not special enough; not good enough.” The words stayed flat and empty because I was not actively believing them for myself. My insecurities exempted me from the power of God’s Word. But I realized how damaging that kind of thinking was. By thinking negatively, I undermined myself thinking I needed another set of scriptures to help me overcome my lies. But I didn’t. And neither do you. We just need to actively believe the truth in the scriptures is for us.
Your ability to believe what God’s Word says about you is true, is directly related to how much you trust Him, and how much you trust Him, is directly related to how well you know Him. If God is a stranger to you, you will have no reason to trust Him, and likely won’t. If you have only a casual acquaintance with Him, you may want to believe Him, but don’t know Him well enough to be sure He is trustworthy.
If, however, you are as close to Him as a best friend, or as intimate as a lover, then you know you can trust the truth of His Word; you have built a deep relationship through time and circumstances. When you read His Word you know the scriptures were written just for you because your heart has been captivated by his love. How well do you know Him?
