Comeback: An Easter Devotional for Kids

DAY 6 OF 8

Grace

By the Calvary Kids Team

Have you ever been in really big trouble? I don’t mean like you ate more Oreos than you were supposed to, or had to go to your room for something you said to your sister. But like REALLY BIG trouble. If you’re like me, then you probably have. The worst part is the more trouble you’re in, the bigger the consequence. Now imagine that you did something so bad that the consequence was . . . death!  WHOA, that's some big trouble. Read the verse below, then come back!

Romans 6:23 (NIRV)

"When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done."

Did you catch that?! The price you have to pay for sin is death! Sin happens anytime you disobey God, and the Bible tells us that every single person that has ever lived is a sinner and has sinned, except one very important person.

  1. Who was the person that never sinned?
  2. So if Jesus never sinned, then did He have to pay the price of dying?
  3. Why do you think Jesus took the consequence of death in your place? If you need help, try looking up some Bible verses online!

Grace is a word that we use in the church to explain how Jesus rescued us from the consequence of our sin. The word itself means "an undeserved gift." It's being given something you didn't earn, something you don't deserve. Jesus gives us grace—the gift of forgiving our sins, saving us, and making a way for us to go to heaven—by dying in our place.

Jesus took the punishment we deserve, and that meant He had to die a painful and bloody death when He was hanged on the cross because He loves you. Today is Good Friday, and it’s sad to remember Jesus’ death, but we call it good because our good and loving God died for us so that we could live! Jesus’s death shows us the grace He gives us!

Mark 15:25 (NIRV)

"It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him."

Dear God, thank you for the grace you give me even when I mess up really badly. I’m sorry that I have disobeyed you. I need your forgiveness so that I can have a relationship with you forever! Amen.
