90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
Yesterday, we talked about what caused us to leave our yard and venture off to somewhere else. Think of your addiction and acting out behavior as the vehicle you used to travel as far away from your yard as possible. Some of us even chose to hop vehicles, maybe distracting ourselves with other obsessive behavior that might be more socially acceptable (becoming a workaholic, obsessing about exercise, or even church activities).
We look for anything to keep us out of our own yard (where our mess is still waiting). We could have even hopped into someone else's yard because it was a whole lot more messy than our own! We often do anything to keep us out of our own yard (where our mess is still waiting).
God waits in our own space for us to return. While we spend all our time running away, we end up in the middle of someone else's problems (codependency), or we lose our identity completely. We miss out on what God has for us.
You are probably aware at this point what's in your yard and what it looks like. Responsibility not only means claiming that your "yard" belongs to you, but showing up in it with your sleeves rolled up and your garden tools ready. God waits for you in your yard. He's ready to walk with you through this journey.
What has been keeping you from coming back to claim responsibility on the mess of your life? Have you run away or spent a lot of time pointing the finger at someone else's mess because it seems worse than yours? What have you been distracting yourself with?
