DAY 2 OF 7

Depression Is Not for You

Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

So, what happens when you lose your joy and become depressed? Your spiritual strength is sapped, and you’re no match for the devil. That’s why he’s so adamant about trying to drag you down. He works to slowly chip away at your joy by planting thoughts of discouragement and self-pity.

Depression comes from a focus on self. Joy comes from focusing on God.

That’s why depression is not for you if you’re a born-again Christian. Jesus already paid the price at Calvary for you to be completely free. Free of sin, sickness, disease, poverty, and, yes, even depression.

Because joy is a fruit of the spirit, that means it is already in you. However, you have to choose to be joyful. Experiencing the benefits of the fruit of the spirit doesn’t happen by accident. The fruit has to be intentionally cultivated and harvested.

Enjoying the fruit of joy comes from getting God’s Word down into your spirit on a regular basis. Then, the truth will set you free from bondage, fear, and depression and prevent it from ever coming back!

If you’ve been battling depression, know this: The power is in your hands to turn it around. Make a decision today that you will not allow the devil to steal your joy. Study scriptures about joy, and keep a gratitude journal. Make daily declarations like, “The joy of the Lord is my strength,” “I am so full of joy!” “I am happy and joyful and strong in the Lord, glory to God!”

Worship and praise Him. Remind yourself of the good things He’s done for you. Then, turn your focus onto others. Bless someone, serve someone, write someone an encouraging note.

When you do, you’ll find depression is gone, and joy will return and overflow in your life!
