Abraham names the place of this near disaster after the God who provides. It’s easy to see why in that moment, but the meaning is much broader. God provided the covenant, the son, the angel and the ram. More than that He provides the opportunity to relate to Him at all. It’s clear that God does all the heavy lifting in this relationship. There is actually nothing that Abraham can offer that hasn’t come from God in the first place.
Something to think about while you are reading today’s passage:
Abraham’s biggest contribution in this whole process is a willingness to be involved. When we see our part in God’s purposes in the same light, what happens to our senses of gratitude or entitlement?
Something to talk about with players of The Aetherlight:
In The Aetherlight, the Scarlet Man’s plans seem costly, but players might miss the point that he provides all the pieces of the puzzle as they go through. It might be helpful for them to retrace some of the significant items and events and see how they eventually lead back to the Scarlet Man and his generosity.
