1–2 Peter: A 10-Day Devotional Reading PlanSample
Growing in Virtue
Peter dives right into the heart of his message with instructions for godly living. He knows that as we grow in our knowledge of God, we’ll recognize more fully his grace and mercy in our lives, and this, in turn, promotes our pursuit of godliness.
Because we have been given all we need to live holy lives, and because we have received the promises and have escaped worldly corruption—we are to grow up spiritually. Peter supplies us with a list of virtues, or godly traits, that grow one from another.
Reflection:
Look again at Peter’s “virtue list” in verses 5–7. Describe from your own experience, or from what you have observed in the experience of others, how one trait builds on another. Can you identify a particular example of this progression in your own life?
