God, What About Me?Sample

God, What About Me?

DAY 4 OF 5

Are My Prayers Working?

Have you ever been presented with something and your response was, “THIS is not what I fasted for!" You denied yourself food, prayed, cried and after all of that, the result was the opposite of what you were praying for. An experience like this can make us question if we should just stop praying and depend on other things or it can cause us to only pray “safe” prayers which do not increase our faith.

The truth is, God does not need us to protect His reputation by asking Him for only the things that we consider safe or simple. With this mindset, we limit God’s ability to do the impossible and to truly make His glory and power known in this world. God showed me that when I pray for the things that I need, no matter how big or small, I put weight on my belief that He is a capable and willing God. I also make my heart ready to give Him the thanks that He deserves. God also warned me, not too long ago, to beware of my fear of disappointment as I pray. God showed me that this can be a direct hindrance to my prayers. God will answer, and even if He doesn’t answer in the way that I am hoping for, I know that He will be glorified just as He says in His word.

We cannot afford to always allow our emotions to lead us in prayer. Our emotions can automatically cause us to pray for the destruction of anyone who’s “behind” the situation. However, when we seek knowledge about our situation from God, we will know if it’s a result of the enemy or a divine orchestration of a mighty all-knowing Father.

For example, Jesus Christ at the garden of Gethsemane: while He was praying, He was not praying against the Pharisees, or Judas who appeared to be “behind” His betrayal. His prayer was focused on the will of God, even in His pain.

So the question should be, whose WILL are your prayers working for?
