Every Child Deserves a Family: Praying for Orphans

DAY 3 OF 6

We read in the Bible that God created all of us to be in families. God began by designing each of us to be a part of His family, calling us His own sons and daughters, while Jesus calls us His brothers and sisters.

When children are loved, protected, and feel like they belong, research shows they develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally—the way they should. Children depend on the consistent, loving care of a parent or caregiver and need the protection and safety of a caring family. Even more, families give children the chance to experience traditions, develop a shared history, and learn important relational and life skills.

God wants us to speak up for children who deserve to be in a loving family and experience all that God has planned for them. Pray that God will use you to inspire others to care about what’s best for children.

PRAY

Dear God, you are a loving, compassionate Father. Thank you for creating families, and for creating us to be in relationship with each other. Please help children living in orphanages to be reunited with their families. Or when that isn’t possible, bring them new, caring families where they can be nurtured and belong. Strengthen entire communities so they can create stronger safety nets for parents, families, and their children. I pray you will use me to advocate for orphans and vulnerable children. Please give me the ability to stir the hearts of others in your name. Amen.

About this Plan

Every Child Deserves a Family: Praying for Orphans

Throughout the Bible—in both the Old Testament and the New—we can see that God has a special place in His heart for orphans and vulnerable children. These short devotions will give you insights from Scripture, along with suggestions for prayer. Our hope is that this will serve as a helpful resource as you support the movement of seeing children in the care of safe, loving families.
