HOSEA AS THE IMAGE OF A FAITHFUL GOD
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34)
God told Hosea to take Gomer as his wife. This was a strange command because Gomer was a prostitute. How could a prophet like Hosea take Gomer, a prostitute, as his wife? Was not there a good woman in Israel at that time? Why did Hosea have to choose Gomer? Hosea didn't argue with God, though. He obeyed and did the will of God.
This turned out to be an illustration to describe the relationship between God and the Israelites. The nation of Israel was like a follower of Christ who compromises his life with sin, whose life is not different from the ways of the people in the world. God warned His elect through the image of Hosea and Gomer. God still warns Christians who have not seriously repented.
One day, Gomer left Hosea and returned to her old life as a prostitute. God commanded Hosea to redeem Gomer and take her back as his wife. Likewise, even though we choose to follow our fleshly desires over obedience to God’s word, the God whom we worship is a faithful and just God.
God loves His people. He forgives us and lifts us to our feet so that we can stand firm and walk with God again. If God is so loving and faithful to us, then let us be more earnest in doing His word.
The God whom we worship is faithful and just. He shows us His goodness.
