Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingNäide

After seven chapters worth of explanation, the author of Hebrews offered his readers a break in trying to determine his main point by saying, “Now the main point of what we are saying is this…” (Heb 8:1). 

Jesus is our High Priest. He has created a new covenant, a new sanctuary, a new order of worship. Jesus’ ministry is not superior to only the Levitical system. It is superior to any religious system humans have developed. He is superior to all our striving, all our attempts to reach God, and all of our good deeds. 

Jesus Himself is this better ministry. He has given us new promises. We no longer have to live in fear or keep track of our actions. There is no scale we need to tip in the right direction. Jesus has changed everything. He is first in all things, giving us the freedom to depend on Him for everything from our eternal salvation to our everyday needs. He is our superior ministry.

Jesus, I praise You. You are before all things. Everything holds together in You. Help me continually put You first in my life. Help me believe there is nothing I need to do to earn Your favor or gain my salvation. You have done it all. You are superior to all things. In Your name, amen.
